Denver Urban Review has been around for 6 months now, and June was easily the most exciting month for construction and development news thus far. Below are a few of the highlights from this lively month.
The biggest news of the month was the ground breaking of 1144 Fifteenth Street. This skyscraper will rise to 603 feet and will redefine the Denver skyline from most angles. Hines is developing this 40-story project.
“I can’t believe this is actually happening. As I have slept, I have played this moment out in my dreams hundreds of times.” stated Hines Managing Director, Jay Despard. “We won’t be sleeping much over the next 31 months, but we have put together a great team.”
Three other noteworthy projects also broke ground in June, the 2300 Welton residential project, the 16-story One Belleview Station office project in southeast Denver, and the two 30-story Country Club Towers project
Members of the development team along with Denver Mayor Michael Hankcock and City Councilman Albus Brooks break ground on 2300 Welton.
The 2300 Welton project includes a 4 percent Low Income Housing Tax Credit project and is being financed by a combination of sources, including a HUD 221 (d)(4) loan and tax-exempt private activity bonds issued by the City and County of Denver.
One Belleview Station will add 320,000 square feet of Class AA office space to the Denver Tech Center.
Denver Mayor Hancock breaks ground on Country Club Towers project.
The Country Club Towers project had an atypical ground breaking ceremony where Denver Mayor Michale Hancock climbed inside an excavator and scooped a pile of dirt. This residential project is being developed by the Broe Group. Plans to develop this project go back over a decade.
Additional highlights from the month of June include:
- Denver International Airport (DIA) and Westin announced the opening date of DIA Westin is November 19th
- The ART hotel opened and Leo Villareal’s 22,000 LED bulb installation that runs along Broadway and above the motor lobby of the hotel was turned on
- New tenants were announced for 1601 Wewatta in Hogan Lovells LLP and the Colorado Athletic Club
June certainly has been a month to remember. With Denver’s economy booming, there is sure to be more exciting news to cover in the months to come. Have a happy and safe upcoming 4th of July everyone.

Great month for Denver, I believe Eviva Cherokee is also under construction as of this weekend. Another win for the Golden Triangle ‘hood.
Hi Dan,
They have been moving dirt at the Eviva site for about ten days now. However, the development team has yet to issue a formal announcement. Hopefully they will issue an announcement after the Holiday weekend.
In any event, I am glad to see that parking lot go.
