Recently RTD had its commuter rail cars on display at the platform behind Denver’s Union Station. The cars are designed to travel farther and faster than RTD’s light rail vehicles. Reaching speeds of 79 miles per hour passengers will be whisked from Union Station to Denver International Airport in 35 minutes.
Each car will have 90 seats and luggage racks are installed in each car. These vehicles are expected to run every 15 minutes during peak hours. The rail line to DIA that the commuter rail cars will serve, is labeled the East Rail Line. Service on this line is slated to begin in 2016.
