November is coming to a close and as such let’s review the top construction and development highlights that took place in Denver during the month of November.
Two very significant Denver hotel projects were completed and are now open to guests. The Westin Denver International Airport hotel is now in operation. The hotel contains 519 rooms in a 14-story building.The hotel will feature a 37,000 square-foot conference center along with 19 meeting rooms. A swimming pool and exercise facility are also included. Adjacent to the Westin DIA will be an 82,000 square foot public plaza that can be utilized for events and entertainment.
“Adding a state-of-the-art hotel and conference center to our international airport places our region front and center as a leader in travel, transportation and tourism,” said Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock.
In downtown Denver the dual-brand Hyatt House/Hyatt Place hotel opened at 14th Street and Glenarm Place. The hotel stands at 21 floors with Hyatt Place providing 248 rooms and Hyatt House offering 113 rooms.
A significant condo project was officially unveiled in November.
Denver-based East West Partners along with Amstar Advisers announced plans to development The Coloradan, a 342-unit condo project adjacent to Denver’s Union Station. This will become the first for-sale residential project in the Union Station neighborhood. The one-acre site where The Coloradan will be constructed is 1750 Wewatta Street. Construction is expected to begin on this $200 million project in the summer of 2016 with completion slated for 2018.
“Since opening in 2014, Union Station has quickly become the new heart of downtown Denver, and The Coloradan will be at the heart of Union Station, making it the most exciting new downtown living opportunity in the city,” said Chris Frampton, managing partner of East West Partners. “We are proud of every thing we’ve built in Denver and Union Station, but The Coloradan may end up being our crown jewel.”
On the west side of town a 64-unit townhome project was announced at the former site of St. Anthony’s Hospital. This development has been titled Perry Row and will take shape just south of Sloan’s Lake.
Two large warehouse projects were announced in November. Scannell Properties and KeHE Distributors, a food distribution company have announced the development of a 270,000 square-foot distribution facility in Aurora at 2200 North Himalaya Road. The Denver office of Newmark Grubb Knight Frank announced Corum Real Estate Group has acquired 7.5 acres near the intersection of I-25 and 62nd Avenue. Construction is now underway at the site on Central 62, a 124,000 square-foot industrial warehouse.
November was undoubtedly another exciting month for construction and development in Denver and more exciting news is sure to be on its way.
