The City of Westminster along with the Westminster Economic Development Authority have announced development partners in Sherman Associates and Alamo Drafthouse for the former 105-acre Westminster Mall site. Westminster is working towards developing the former mall site into the nexus and downtown of Westminster. This land is located at Sheridan Boulevard and U.S. 36.

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is making progress on plans to construct a 40,000-foot cinema at the site.

“We see great opportunity in the Downtown Westminster site, and we’re looking forward to bringing our special brand of entertainment there,” said Dave Kennedy of Alamo.

Minneapolis-based Sherman Associates is slated to develop three blocks on the property with a proposal to include residential and retail components. A workforce housing development is expected to be constructed in a five-story building as part of the residential component.

“We’re all about building communities and enriching neighborhoods, and we see this as a great opportunity for us to bring that ethic to Westminster,” said George Sherman, president of Sherman Associates. “We’re known in the industry for our quality developments, and we’re excited to be partnering with Westminster to achieve this bold vision for a new downtown.”

Utility work at, and adjacent to the former mall site has the green light to move forward and is expected to be completed in the middle of 2016. Construction on the first buildings is anticipated to get underway in the second half of 2016.

The City of Westminster approved the master plan for the site in 2014 with the aim to create a development that is walkable, bicycle friendly and will become a true downtown for Westminster.

“The city is committed to partnering with the development community to build an active mixed-use urban center for its residents and businesses,” said Deputy City Manager Jody Andrews. “Dave Kennedy and George Sherman are the perfect partners: they are unique, high quality, high vision community builders.”

It’s too bad the northwest rail line doesn’t (and apparently won’t) go there.

Isn’t this at the end of the “B” line, formerly called the “Northwest” line? This should be as successful, even more so since it is near commuter train and highways, than Lakewood’s Belmar.

Nice rendering… I wonder if the finished design will look anything like the
    rendering.
